The SBC Executive Committee President has been vacant for a long time since Ronnie Floyd resigned to avoid the legal fallout of the waving of attorney-client privilege back in 2021. So for two and a half years, the search has been on with multiple candidates, one being on the search committee thus being popularly rejected and the other failing a background check after serving as interim president for a year and a half. The search is finally over, so it seems. The search committee has landed on Jeff Iorg.
The Search Team will nominate Jeff Iorg as the candidate to be voted upon during a special called meeting of the EC’s board of trustees on March 21st.
Jeff Iorg is the President of Gateway Seminary, a Southern Baptist Cooperative Program entity. Jeff Iorg was one of the only seminary presidents to give a good report at the 2023 Annual Southern Baptist Convention.
So far the move seems to be well received by multiple sides, but it does leave Gateway Seminary at the mercy of his replacement should he be confirmed to this new role.
