The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod is a predominantly midwestern denomination made up of supposedly orthodox Lutherans. This amounts to about 1% of the American population. In addition to being a denomination dying much like mainline churches, this denomination is functionally gay affirming in its congregations.
Pew Research Group data shows alarming developments in the resolve of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.
So half of the LCMS supports homosexuality as something to be accepted, and only 42% something to be discouraged. This is actually better than how they performed in 2014, but whatever positive spin you can put on this is undermined by the gay marriage question.
Over a 10 year period gay marriage support increased within the LCMS, as the undecideds broke in favor.
The LCMS is also pro-abortion in their ranks with support for child murder at all time highs.
The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod is a dying denomination, much like mainline churches. There age stratification is perhaps the oldest in Evangelicalism with 5% are between the ages of 18 and 29, 17% are ages 30 to 49, 30% are ages 50 to 65 and 47% are 65 and older. With liberal members like this, it’s easy to see why young people are choosing different churches.

The extra articles they added to Luther’s catechism in the whole Turnipseed New Cataclysm debacle show they have a messed up hierarchy on sexual matters as well.
Pew results should be taken with a shaker full of salt
It is worth noting that as Lyman Stone pointed out on X, Pew grossly exaggerated the size of the LCMS at around 3 million members. In an audio interview with Issues Etc, totally worth the listen, he pointed how difficult it is for Pew to accurately assess the respondents’ degree of fidelity and commitment to church life. Mark Twain was right about statisrics, btw
