Scott Aniol Replaces Josh Buice at G3

In the months since Josh Buice’s dishonorable departure, G3 Ministries has lost much of its steam and relevance. They cancelled their conference and lost Virgil Walker, one of their leaders and main contributors. Rather than bring someone from outside to helm the ministry, they appointed Scott Aniol, Executive Vice President and Editor-in-Chief of G3:

The Board of Directors of G3 Ministries is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Scott Aniol as President of G3 Ministries, effective Wednesday, July 9.

Since joining the ministry in 2021, Dr. Aniol has provided faithful leadership and clear theological direction, serving as Executive Vice President and Editor-in-Chief. Under his leadership, G3 Press has expanded to publish more than 50 titles, G3 Plus has grown to over 10,000 users as a trusted digital platform for biblical content, and the Gloria Deo Journal of Theology has emerged as a respected voice in Reformed theological scholarship.

Dr. Aniol has also guided the growth of the G3 Church Network to more than 200 churches united by a shared commitment to the 1689 Second London Baptist Confession. In addition to overseeing publishing and theological initiatives, he has brought administrative stability and cultivated a strong team of staff and contributors who serve local churches with excellence and conviction.

Dr. Aniol shared his vision for the future:

G3 exists to glorify God by educating, encouraging, and equipping God’s people with biblical truth for faithful living. I am deeply committed to maintaining our firm stand on first-level doctrinal matters while modeling gracious engagement on areas where faithful brothers may differ. My desire is that G3 would continue to be a trusted resource for pastors and churches and a platform for amplifying the voices of ordinary men who faithfully labor in the Word week after week.

Aniol represents a “next man up” strategy of promoting a leader from within. It remains dubious whether he can recapture the momentum lost by Buice’s scandal. One glaring issue is that Aniol’s “vision” discusses “gracious engagement on areas where faithful brothers may differ,” which is the opposite of the approach he took during his attacks against Christian Nationalism back in 2023. Scott Aniol strawmaned Christendom and promoted Tobias Reimenschneider’s slander against Joel Webbon. Though he retracted the post, he still did it. He has even passively attacked William Wolfe over the use of figurative language. He has been anything but gracious towards those with whom he disagrees. While Aniol was not as egregious as Buice would be exposed to be, he was still a bad actor at the time.

Overall, this is a predictable move for G3 Ministries, but not one that will really change the course. Those who have lost confidence in G3 will unlikely be moved Aniol because he does not represent organizational change or rebrand, but rather more of the same.
