The departure of Brent Leatherwood from the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention was a significant win for conservative Southern Baptists who have been applying public pressure to root out liberalism in the convention. However, the replacement of Leatherwood is likely to follow in the footsteps of being a pro-amnesty liberal.
The unfortunate position that I have is that Leatherwood’s replacement is a known figure named Daniel Darling. In 2021, Darling was a leading figure in pushing churches to become jab sites for the failed Covid shots. Additionally, he is the biggest Ukraine shill in Evangelicalism, perhaps second only to Richard Land, the namesake of the Land Center, which he currently runs.
Already, it appears Dan Darling is scrubbing some tweets, but his egregious record on issues like Covid is unavoidable and well-documented.
Despite working for an SBC entity (the Land Center is an offshoot of SWBTS), Darling was hired by the ERLC back in January. If my prediction is true, then Darling’s hire was a trial period to see if he would be a fit for a replacement. Given Darling’s history of working with all 3 previous ERLC heads, Darling is a solid choice for liberals wanting continuity and also someone with name recognition.
