Abortion Wins In Ohio

The results of the Question 1 ballot initiative in Ohio have enshrined abortion in the state’s constitution.

The result, as of this publication, is the pro-abortion Yes vote at 55.5% and the pro-life No vote at 44.5%. These results coincide with a gloomy gubernatorial result from Kentucky where Republicans failed to flip the governor’s seat. The results of the referendum will enshrine abortion in the state’s constitution despite the heartbeat law currently in effect. The results of the referendum threaten this progress.

According to an exit poll conducted by NBC News, 30% of the electorate was Evangelical. Yet 24% voted pro-abortion. The Brian Tome version of Christianity is clearly having an impact in Ohio.

Additionally, Trump voters underperformed as the Trump 2020 voters are 43% of the electorate whereas Trump won 53% of the vote in 2020. Trump voters outperformed Evangelicals.

Republicans need to solve their turnout issues in Ohio and elsewhere. The proportion of Biden voters is the same as in 2020, meaning the failure of Trump voters to come out in support of life is one of the driving factors behind this loss. Additionally, the failure to show up for the prior referendum which would have increased the threshold for this referendum to pass would have rendered tonight’s results a win.

  1. Several churches here refuse to speak out about political issues. It’s very frustrating. I don’t know who Brian Tome is, but there are plenty of pastors in the Columbus area that are beholden to third-wayism. The lead pastor at the church I used to go to said something to the effect of, “Jesus was followed by both Matthew the tax collector and Simon the Zealot, men from opposing political camps. Therefore, we can be supporters of either party and still be unified in Christ.” Big Eva’s influence has done a number on us.
