The Southern Baptist Convention invested heavily in the abuse narrative they created for themselves, but this has resulted in multiple lawsuits. Johnny Hunt’s alleged sexual assault with another pastor’s wife which was subsequently thrown under the rug by the parties involved was the biggest revelation of the Guidepost Report. However, Johnny Hunt sued the Southern Baptist Convention, Guidepost Solutions, and multiple figures for defamation.
On Friday, Johnny Hunt was handed a procedural victory when only one count was dismissed.
Accordingly, Hunt’s claim for defamation/ libel per se is duplicative of Count I and will be dismissed because it is not a cognizable claim under Tennessee law.
This is a major win for Johnny Hunt as the count that was dismissed was done because it was functionally a duplicate of another count.
