Erick Erickson is a longtime political commentator and also a Southern Baptist. He touted his recent National Review article where he attacks people on the right who actually want to win in politics.

A growing number of individuals and groups on the right are turning their back on conservatism without giving up the label. They have abandoned the three-legged stool of fiscal conservatism, traditional values, and a foreign policy approach of peace through strength. Instead, they want to harness the power of the federal government to punish the left and implement their preferred policy agenda. They give no credence to the guiding principles of limited government and instead are happy to use big government in order to win.
Let’s break this down. On the three-legged stool, it’s worth noting that fiscal conservatism has long been abandoned by Republicans going back to Reagan or even Nixon. Moreover, Erick Erickson isn’t that much of a believer in traditional values as he once celebrated Katanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation to the Supreme Court. As for foreign policy, this contradicts fiscal conservatism, yet there is no self-awareness to be found because using tax dollars to kill people who are perceived as enemies is viewed as a good investment. Meanwhile, the neocons sell out their own border for cheap labor. Thus Erickson has no credibility on national security.
Christian Nationalists believe that the sword of government must be welded and that it is not the Ring of Power in Tolkien’s universe. Erick Erickson is the Stonetoss comic character citing the Constitution while the gun is aimed at him. He’s been in politics for too long to not realize the zero-sum nature of power under the current political dynamic. But his Windows Vista conservatism is far too out of date.
As for limited government, Erick Erickson was a hardcore Branch Covidian. So his hypocrisy abounds. Erick Erickson wants to lose, perhaps because he knows nothing else.
