Preston Sprinkle is the leading voice of Side B Theology, a heresy that asserts that homosexual desires and identity are not sins and therefore compatible with Christianity. In addition to promoting this theology, he has often weighed in on the trend of “deconstruction” which is a rather Millennial way of saying apostatizing, although some woke circles use the word to mean “decolonizing” their faith. Preston Sprinkle offered his reason for this trend and he blames Republican-heavy churches.
Right wing, Republican-only Christianity has contributed significantly to younger people deconstructing from the faith.
Not saying Christians can’t be or vote Republican (or Democrat). I’m specifically referencing the “Republican only” perspective (i.e. If you’re a Christian, you must be/vote Republican)
Not saying this is the only reason why younger people deconstruct, or that there are other significant reasons why they do. Only wondering if this perspective has “contributed significantly” to many young people’s deconstruction.
Lastly, I’m just as opposed to a “Democrat-only” perspective. I just don’t think young people growing up in a “Democrat-only” church environment are deconstructing at nearly the same rate as those in a “republican-only” environment. But I could be wrong.
I guess I should also add that I don’t think “deconstruction” is intrinsically bad. We all should deconstruct from untruth and reconstruct upon the truth. So, I’m referring to deconstructing from the faith, or from orthodox Christianity.
While it’s surely true that there are some or many churches that are Republican-only environments, for someone to deconstruct their faith with this as a contributing factor denotes primary causes. The Republican Party, being a political entity, theoretically represents certain ideas or positions. So this raises the question, what ideas embodied by the Republican Party are they rejecting?
With young people, and data that suggests that women are less churches than men in the Zoomer generation, it is safe to speculate that the desire to murder babies is a truer cause of deconstruction. However, there are several prominent celebrity deconstructions. Whether it be Joshua Harris, Rett, and Link, etc, they cite sexual morality as their reason. At the end of the day, they support sodomy and choose that over Christ. The Democrat Party supports sodomy harder, and therefore, these people will deconstruct harder or faster in the roll-tide MAGA church than in an Episcopalian church helmed by a lesbian.
During the Evangelicals For Harris call, it was said that these women deconstructed over Evangelical support of Trump after 2016. But this was done out of a hatred for other believers. Jesus said
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
John 13:34-35 NASB1995
This command is violated by those who disdain the church because they are the lone bulwark against moral insanity in America.
Preston Sprinkle is trying to raise a concern and longhouse the church into being more politically moderate, but rather the church should stay the course and reject Big Eva struggle sessions.
