In a resounding rebuke to the old guard of Republican politics, Indiana State Senator Travis Holdman suffered a decisive defeat in the May 5, 2026, GOP primary for Senate District 19. Challenger Blake Fiechter crushed the longtime incumbent by more than 20 points, with Fiechter capturing roughly 61% of the vote to Holdman’s 39%. This massive win was a sharp rebuke against the fecklessness of Indiana Republicans, characterized most prominently by former Vice President and Governor of Indiana, Mike Pence.
Holdman, a fixture in Indiana politics for nearly two decades, positioned himself as a voice of moderation. After his loss, he told supporters that “revenge & retribution is not a Christian value.” It was a tone-deaf remark that perfectly encapsulated why establishment figures like him are increasingly out of step with the base. In a time when Democrats control key levers of power at the federal level and push radical policies on everything from education to borders to family values, many Christians and conservatives are tired of hearing calls for unilateral disarmament from their own side. Turning the other cheek might be personal piety, but in the arena of public policy, it often translates to surrendering ground to those who actively undermine biblical principles and American liberty.
Voters in District 19, and across the Hoosier State, have grown weary of politicians who prioritize decorum over deliverance. They want leaders who will fight tooth and nail to advance life-affirming policies, protect parental rights, secure election integrity, and roll back the cultural Marxism that has infiltrated our institutions. Holdman’s defeat sends an unmistakable message: Mike Pence-style Republicans, with their polished pleas for civility in the face of unrelenting liberal aggression, no longer command the loyalty of the grassroots.
This victory was far from isolated. Across Indiana, voters delivered a broader repudiation of the Mike Pence-style establishment Republicans who have long favored compromise over confrontation.
Longtime Sen. Jim Buck, who enjoyed explicit endorsement from Mike Pence, was defeated by a staggering 30-points in his primary. Other incumbents who prioritized institutional decorum over aggressive conservative governance, such as Sens. Greg Walker, fell in double-digit landslides to challengers committed to real results.
For too long, the GOP has been hampered by internal saboteurs, those who would rather be nicer than God, while the Democrats advance their agenda. By clearing out these voices, Indiana voters are forging a stronger GOP ready to seize and wield power effectively against the left, proving that primary accountability is the path to reclaiming ground lost to progressive overreach. There is a long march through the institution underway in the Republican Party, and it begins as it must in the state legislatures.
