Dave Rubin is one of the most intellectually stagnant thinkers in Conservative Media. The homosexual Jew who conveniently “left the left” when liberalism started prioritizing tranvestites over plain gays quickly made a name for himself on the right, monetizing his political journey for a crowd that wanted a token gay to tell them they’re not homophobic. But being a nice guy who has conversations was more on-screen persona than an authentic personality, as his interview with Bishop Robert Barron reveals.
Bishop Robert Barron is hailed as a based Catholic and is one of the most mainstream Trump-supporting bishops in America, with over 3 million subs on YouTube and a recent appearance at the America 250 rededication ceremony. But it was apparent that neither he nor Rubin were the least bit traditionally conservative.
Conversations, But Not With Those People
Dave Rubin argues that liberalism always stood for having conversations, even with people on the other side. He asserts that progressivism infiltrated liberalism in the 2000s and took it over via a long march through the institutions. Bill Maher is praised by both Rubin and Barron as a model liberal.
Yet despite lauding people for having conversations, the duo praise William F Buckley for purging the “old right,” specifically the John Birch Society, from the right decades ago for being antisemitic. Why would a pro-Constitution, devotedly anticommunist organization be suspicious of Jewish influence? It’s not like the history of communism was unknown at the time. Like Buckley, Rubin believes that the right needs to undergo a purge again, only the line of demarcation is over the woke term antisemitism. So conversations are great, but not with the John Birch Society which is still prominent today, nor their allies.
Ethno Narcissism
Dave Rubin accomplishes what no 4chan post could: articulating Jewish anthropology from the horse’s mouth. Rubin decries the rise of Replacement Theology, despite it being the uncontested position of Christianity for nearly 2000 years. Bishop Barron does not contest this, despite Rubin deferring to him on this point.
Dave Rubin then goes on a diatribe about how Jews are told during their Passover script that every generation someone will rise up to oppose them and then delves into a diatribe about how expelling the Jews from a land will always end poorly. The most famous example of this is the Spanish Empire which expelled Jews and Muslims in 1492 and promptly entered a golden age. This golden age ended not because of persecuting Jews but rather the Spanish Crown’s opposition to Protestantism. The disastrous Spanish Armada was the definitive demise of the Spanish Empire.
Dave Rubin climaxes his rant by stating, narcissistically, that the story of Jews is the story of humanity. This is what Christian Zionism also teaches. Instead of believing that the Bible is the story of Christ, they repurpose it as the story of the Jews through erroneous prophetic futurism.
While many teachings of dispensationalism have been watered down, ie the original teaching that Jews and gentile Christians were separate in the afterlife, the theology has increasingly been politicized. Dave Rubin’s ethno-narcissism talking points are what Christian Zionists often articulate.
So this raises the question: who got the talking points from whom?
It would seem more reasonable that the insurgent race with a pagan religion that teaches, via the Talmud, racial supremacy was the likelier culprit than even John Hagee himself!
Catholic Ineptitude
Bishop Barron provided much support to my thesis that Christian Zionism is not merely an Evangelical phenomenon. There is abundant evidence for this. Glenn Beck is a Mormon. Some of the biggest Zionists I know in real life are Catholic. While Catholics use Evangelicalism as a punching bag, the “based” Catholic bishop assented to Rubin.
I personally think that Evangelicalism will be rid of Christian Zionism in a matter of years. But Catholics are institutionally embracing it, and this change is hard to undo. Thus, opposing Christian Zionism should be less of a blame game and more about ousting a foreign heresy.
