In a vague email to parents, Orange Lutheran Christian School informed them that they are undergoing an investigation into serious misconduct from one of their staffers. While they did not disclose who the alleged staffer was, the evidence strongly suggested that it was Kyla Laulhere, who was the acting General Manager for the school’s football program, which is a member of the elite tier Trinity division that features powerhouse programs like Santa Margarita.
Kyla Laulhere was scrubbed from the school’s website, consistent with the claim that she was the offender in question. It should also be noted that there is a Marc Laulhere on staff at Orange Lutheran. The story was part of a greater trend of female school teachers fornicating with students.
Now, new details have emerged pertaining to the scandal. What has not been confirmed is whether there was any sex involved between staffers and students; however, there are videos of non-explicit sexual content that have emerged at the root of this scandal.
Tarek Fattal is a sports reporter who covers California high school sports. He and his co-host Aram Tolegian discussed the scandal, including videos germane to Laulhere which they have seen, though have not disclosed to the world. The videos in question were not screen recordings, but a video of the content being viewed on another phone. It is unclear who the content was originally being shared to or whether they were underage or not.
The content in question involves Laulhere sending “thirst traps” that became circulated amongst students. That the content was sent from her now-scrubbed social media accounts is unambiguous. Per Fattal, one involves a video of Laulhere pulling up her booty shorts to accentuate her butt with gyrations. There were several that depicted her in the shower, showing cleavage but without nipple or lower nudity. Another involved her in a thong. The video stitches together multiple things that have been sent. What is not featured in the content is anything explicitly pornographic.
Nevertheless, this is what is commonly called a thirst trap, which is sexually suggestive but without showing nudity. Women will post these on social media all the time or send such content to men, and it is not just the OnlyFans creators that do this. Within hookup culture, this behavior is normal. Women will even do this content and then claim that it is not sexual, even though it clearly is.
Legally, this content being shared between a staffer and a student is a gray area. Because it is not explicitly pornographic, it might not be illegal. California does not criminalize social media communications between school teachers and students, though it can result in termination or reprimand. Thus, without anything explicitly sexual, it is very well possible that there will be no criminal charges from this scandal. Per Fattal, there has been no arrests so far.
Even if this is not criminal, this blurring of the lines is how these illicit relationships between staffers and students arise. Countless other instances often involve Snapchat messaging or Instagram DMs of a sexual nature. Thirst traps are merely a stepping stone. Again, it must be asked, why is a 34-year-old woman engaging in this sort of behavior in the first place? That is where there is a much deeper cultural problem at hand.
