Donald Trump spoke at the climax of the Republican National Convention last night. And in peak form, Donald Trump was stoic, reverent, and a leader of men. At the beginning of his speech, Trump invoked the providence of God, giving glory to his life being spared from assassination.
Trump vowed only to tell the story of July 13 once.
Trump stated, “I’m not supposed to be here tonight.” The crowd responded by chanting “Yes you are!”
“Thank you. But I’m not. And I’ll tell you. I stand before you in this arena only by the grace of Almighty God.”
This was the line that captured the most attention. But Trump wasn’t finished.
“Many people say it was a providential moment. Probably was.”

It was a rather reverential side of Trump,
“We live in a world of miracles. None of us knows God’s plan.”
He thanked Franklin Graham before retelling the story of Franklin Graham telling him not to use foul language, saying that he’s working hard to work on his note. Concerning Billy Graham, Trump remarked, “He was a good rally guy too.” Trump regaled the audience about how his father loved Billy Graham. Then Trump went providential again.
“Every single moment we have on this earth is a gift from God.”
In building to his conclusion, Trump’s message was that our expectations are too small.
Trump has not lived up to being a Christian Prince in the past, but Trump sounds like a changed man after his near-death experience.

“Changed” does not equal regenerated. He’s also trying to win an election. But I do pray for his salvation.
There’s a reason why I used that word. But Trump is in my prayers.
