The Gospel Coalition Surprisingly Lauds JD Vance’s Ordo Amoris

The Gospel Coalition has been a bastion for liberal Evangelicalism, specifically the proliferation of Critical Race Theory and Side B Theology in the church. Having written some of the most legendarily bad articles in all my time of coverage, it’s newsworthy when they write an article on a relevant or political topic that does not suck.

JV Fesko writes Augustine’s ‘Ordo Amoris’ and Immigration Policy for the Carson Center of The Gospel Coalition. Most of the article is simply an explainer on ordo amoris. And then their is a basic truism about regulating immigration being a necessary function of government that Christians can debate. But when applying the issue to JD Vance, Fesko writes:

What does Vance’s invocation of the order of love mean for the present state of political dialogue in the United States? Some might object and see it as a thin theological veneer for bad policy. I, however, see this as potential ray of hope in an otherwise cloudy and overcast political scene.

For the last several decades, politics has become a battle of sound bites; more recently, our nation has undone 400 years of literacy by plying cultural memes as an engine of political and cultural warfare. In an otherwise bleak landscape, Vance’s invocation of Augustine’s order of love means that, whether right or wrong, he has appealed to a substantive idea rather than a sound bite or meme. Christians can take this meaty theological claim and engage it with deep, scriptural thought.

Invoking the order of love may indicate how political discourse in our nation could turn toward substantive dialogue. Fresh winds of deep theological thought may yet dispel the stale air of political partisanship and rancor.

Essentially, Fesko is arguing that JD Vance is introducing a more intelligent class of discourse and views it as a welcomed surprise even though The Gospel Coalition’s audience is inclined to disagree. So even though this article is weeks late, it’s not a dollar short.

  1. Fesko is a Thomist (up to a point). It is therefore not surprising that he would go along with a basic Thomist ethical idea. Where Fesko departs from Thomism is where it contradicts his Radical Two-kingdom theology where everything political is under a neutral third covenant.

  2. “The Gospel Coalition Surprisingly Lauds JD Vance’s Ordo Amoris”

The ONLY reason “The Gospel Coalition” (more like the jew-worshipping cultural marxist coalition) is PRETENDING to laud Vance’s Ordo Amoris, is because the Overton Window is shifting to the right, and “The Gospel Coalition” is desperate to retain relevance.

“The Gospel Coalition” is only PRETENDING to laud Ordo Amoris, in order to prevent Christians from realizing that “The Gospel Coalition” is actually a bunch of liberal, heretical, globalist, cultural marxist, traitors.

  3. Meanwhile the Catholic bishops try to sue Trump. I hope this ends with the bishops all being deported to Rome.
