The Southern Baptist abuse narrative is collapsing from the weight of mounting court records from the Sills defamation lawsuit. Rachael Denhollander who represented Jennifer Lyell against the Southern Baptist Convention, was allowed to make material edits to the Guidepost Report, eliminating any pretense of independence to the investigation. But not only was this uncovered, embarrassing emails showcasing playful dialogue between David Sill, and the SBC’s star victim, Jennifer Lyell, demonstrating her unquenchable thirst for seeing Sills, who she would later accuse of abuse.
Baptist News Global is a feminist, open borders, gay outlet, has even turned against the SBC narrative on this one. Their coverage of this story might be for anti-establishment reasons, but it nevertheless highlights their occasional willingness to elevate the work of some of the good guys.
However, on Friday, Dec. 12, just hours after BNG reached out to Denhollander via text message seeking comment, her husband, Jacob Denhollander, posted a since-deleted tweet. The post featured a popular meme from the show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia depicting the character Charlie Kelly frantically standing in front of a conspiracy evidence board. Jacob Denhollander captioned the photo with a single word in quotes: “Journalism.”
Megan Basham — who is no fan of BNG — also had been tweeting about Denhollander that day and drew attention to the tweet, saying Jacob Denhollander could only respond with “mocks.”
Rachael Denhollander has a reputation as a fighter whom denominational leaders don’t want to cross.
Mark Wingfield published his personal thoughts on the reporting, highlighting Rachael Denhollander’s ill-tempered demeanor.Â
This would be an unsurprising revelation if true, if social media was any indication. Nevertheless, the Denhollanders have lost the liberal media.
