Following the departure of Pueblo West Baptist Church leaving the Southern Baptist Convention, a church in Waterford California announced their exit as well. First Southern Baptist Church Waterford is a church that has always been Southern Baptist.
“Tonight at our Business Meeting we voted unanimously to remove ourselves from the Southern Baptist Convention due to its drift away from solid biblical values and convictions. We will remain Baptist in our distinctives which are rooted in Scripture and continue to keep our focus on making disciples locally and globally. More to come…” announced Pastor Greg Perkins on August 14.
The debate over leaving the Southern Baptist Convention was had by this church. The home page of their website details the debate of the Southern Baptist Convention presenting two orthodox positions on whether to leave or stay. Ultimately with this pool of information made available to the congregants, they unanimously voted to exit.
The list of reasons provided by FSBC is the most itemized of the recent churches to depart. A standout reason is that they need the Conservative Baptist Network in order to find identification and fellowship. By leaving the SBC they would ultimately vote no confidence in the Conservative Baptist Network in their ability to save the SBC. Furthermore, they expressed embarrassment for being a member of the SBC.
FSBC did not respond to comment as to whether they would remove “Southern” from their name following their disassociation. Update: Pastor Greg Perkins told Evangelical Dark Web that FSBC Waterford would undergo a name change process in the future.
