The Southern Baptist Convention may have woke buyer’s remorse, but it’s an important case study in how remorse is not the same as repentance. In 2025 the Southern Baptist Convention is as woke as ever and is heaviliy entangled with liberal ministries and NGOs, such as the Evangelical Immigration Table and World Relief. Also in 2025, the Southern Baptist Convention is heavily in bed with The Gospel Coalition.
This breakout session features JD Greear, the liberal former SBC president and is being hosted by the Send Network a Southern Baptist program within the North American Mission Board.
Also featuring JD Greear is a questionably egalitarian panel featuring Nancy Guthrie on Bible teaching and speaking. This panel is not SBC-sponsored, per the advertisement.
In a panel hosted by Lifeway and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, both SBC entities, MWBTS president Jason Allen and a staffer are on the panel discussing the democratization of theology. The panel also features a quasi-lady pastor, Jen Wilkin.
So, 3 SBC entities are tied up in TGC25, the most influential woke Evangelical conference in the United States this year. This signals a marked stand for liberalism in 2025 as the cultural tide of liberalism recedes.
