Big Eva Lauds Biden As Heroic For Dropping Out

Following Joe Biden’s resignation from running for President with the intention to finish his term, the reaction from major Evangelical institutions has been to celebrate Biden’s selfless decision “for the good of the country.” This is the latest instance of Big Eva pushing a liberal agenda on the most rightwing demographic in the United States.

Russell Moore, EIC of Christianity Today, was eager to laud the decision after his notable reticence to celebrate the overturning of Roe v Wade.

Russell Moore was the former head of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, and he parlayed his career in the ERLC into liberal Christian media.

Samuel Perry, an anti-Christian Nationalist professor, is an ardent defender of affirmative action and also celebrated Joe Biden’s “bravery” while gearing up to accuse Evangelicals of being racist for opposing Kamala Harris.

And then there’s Brent Leatherwood, the current head of the ERLC, the successor of Russell Moore. He had a column ready to go in anticipation of Biden’s decision to drop out. But his quotes in the Baptist Press report are far more telling.

“Not only is this a historic decision, it is the right decision for our nation,” Ethics & Religious Liberty President Brent Leatherwood said in written comments for Baptist Press. “The role of president takes a heavy toll and, based on what has been apparent for some time, it was unrealistic to ask President Biden to endure another four years of the incredible burdens placed on the one who occupies this office.”

Brent Leatherwood gives credence to the idea that Joe Biden was ever competently running the country and only acknowledges that Biden is unlikely to be able to for an additional four-year term. This is not an assessment based in reality. This is rather a Democrat PR spin.

“We should all express our appreciation that President Biden has put the needs of the nation above his personal ambition,” Leatherwood said. “Despite what some partisans will say, to walk away from power is a selfless act – the kind that has become all too rare in our culture.”

As it looks, the 2024 election is a foregone conclusion, at least for Joe Biden. Like John McCain and Dianne Feinstein, they would prefer to die in office even if incapable of their jobs. The decision to drop out came after power brokers forced Biden’s hand and probably promised him something under the table. To call this selfless because he’s stepping away from power as though that’s a higher principle is asinine. Perhaps Brent Leatherwood should resign and show similar bravery and selflessness.
